You Belong to a Family

Our family started over 118 years ago near 40th and Webster Street in Omaha at a small Catholic grade school.  Over time, a high school was added to the family.  And eventually, both the grade school and high school families got larger.  At one time, over 1/7 of all Omaha Archdiocese school students were on the St. Cecilia campus.  A large family indeed, and the graduates of both schools went out into the world.

We have made a positive difference in many kinds of professions.   Many of us became parents and grandparents (even great-grandparents), enhancing the world through future generations.  Some have committed to religious vocations. We have helped people in our communities and neighborhoods.   Many of us have assisted our various churches and parishes, partly inspired by our early examples in the Cathedral schools.  After all, many of us received our first sacraments at St. Cecilia.  We are a family that cares about changing the world in a positive way and embraces a mission larger than ourselves.

Some of us were part of St. Cecilia Grade School.  Some of us were part of Cathedral High School.  Some of us were part of both.  Some went far away from the St. Cecilia campus and Omaha.  Some of us stayed close to home.  Our alumni family also includes a special group of people – the parents of our graduates, those people who supported our school and parish, attended games and special events, and who continue to take pride in their children – no matter how old those children are today.  We are a family with many branches and countless stories, but we have common roots from Cathedral schools and a shared Catholic tradition. And the members of this extended family support each other during life’s joys and sorrows.

Wanting to bring our family a little closer, a few alums decided that it was time to launch a Cathedral Schools Alumni Association (CSAA), a group to include the graduates of both schools and the parents of graduates.  We want a place to tell our stories and memories - and a way to have events we can all enjoy.  You will be hearing more details soon, but please know if you have questions or want to let us know about your life or the lives of your family and alumni friends, you can reach us at alumni@stcecilia.net.

 Welcome home!
